Ristorante Mezza Luna
What our Customers Have to Say about Mezza Luna
We were looking for a good Italian dinner in Philadelphia and Mezza Luna exceeded all our expectations. The best meal we've had outside of Italy, in fact. Everything was cooked perfectly. Instead of dessert, we asked for some cheese and fruit and the chef sent out a beautifully composed plate with some excellent cheese selections. The owner even offered my husband a complimentary after-dinner drink!
This South Philadelphia Italian restaurant has more than the typical "red gravy" pasta selections. Many of the pasta selections are homemade, including the excellent ricotta filled gnocchi in gorgonzola sauce. Other items we tasted included a special of lobster ravioli, and a regular menu item agnolotti (half moon shaped pasta) filled with pesto. We also enjoyed selections from the dessert tray including tiramisu and ricotta cheesecake.
Excellent service was provided by the Italian waitstaff. The restaurant is a nicely decorated space, walls are painted bright blue and yellow. My only complaint about the ambiance is that is was rather noisy in the room. Also, parking in this neighborhood can be difficult, however, the restaurant will provide you on request a pass to park in a nearby lot.
Most entrees are around $20, and portions are moderate. The appetizers and salads ranged from $10 and up. While the restaurant has a full bar and wine list, you can cut down your costs here by bringing your own bottle of wine for a $5 corkage fee.

The real deal
First when you walk into Mezza, you feel you are home. Everyne is so nice there & makes you feel so comfortable! I could go on about the food forever. It is always so fresh & authentic, just like you're eating in Italy. The gnocci melts in your mouth like pillows of yum. The shrimp app in dijon cream is delicious. Branzino is always cooked perfectly, the best I've had ever!! They have a small bar, but they are so nice & accomidating, you can even bring your own bottle of wine. To top it off, their desserts are great & you can end the night with complimentary limencello or cremencello (only had it here & it is amazing). So what else can I say....did you make your reservation yet???

Four of us dined at Mezza Luna on a Saturday night. We enjoyed our evening. The owner of the restaurant was very attentive to us and even prepared us a special sampling platter of his homemade gnocchi's, which were excellent! Max, a waiter, made us a delicious Caeser Salad along with dessert Bananas Foster...both were made tableside and delicious. We will vist this restaurant again. The staff does not try to rush you through your meal.
